The problem with most EDC screwdrivers
Most pocket screwdrivers fail the same way: the bits live inside the handle. To get the right bit you dump them all out, find the one you need, insert it, use the tool, then chase the other bits across a desk or a range bench. It's fiddly, slow, and you lose bits. A tool that creates more work than it solves isn't earning its pocket real estate.
KNAFS solved this with the Bit Driver Grande by putting the bits on the outside.
What makes the KNAFS Bit Driver Grande different
The Bit Driver Grande carries three Wiha Torx bits — T6, T8, and T10 — in magnetic channels on the exterior of the tool body. The bits sit in anodized aluminum channels with o-ring retention. You can see exactly which bit is which without picking up the tool. You grab the bit you need without removing the other two. The o-rings hold each bit securely enough that they don't rattle or fall out in a pocket, but offer zero resistance when you want to pull one.
This sounds like a small thing. In use it's the difference between a tool you reach for and one you don't.
Build quality
The body is 6061 aluminum, fully jimped and knurled across the grip surfaces. At 4" long and 0.5" diameter it's sized like a thick pen — substantial enough to get real torque on a screw, slim enough to disappear in a pocket or sit flush in a bag organizer.
The end cap is also aluminum with an internal bearing. When you're driving a screw, the bearing lets the cap spin freely in your palm while the driver rotates — the same ergonomic principle as a quality watchmaker's screwdriver. It reduces hand fatigue on longer jobs and gives you better tactile feedback on screw engagement. A small detail that matters when you're actually using the tool instead of reviewing it.
The Wiha Torx bits included — T6, T8, and T10, each 28mm — are not an afterthought. Wiha is a German precision tool manufacturer whose bits are used by professional technicians. The tolerance on Wiha bits means they seat fully in a Torx head without slop, which prevents cam-out and stripped fasteners. This matters most on the small T6 and T8 screws that hold pivot hardware on folding knives, where a loose-fitting bit strips a screw in seconds.
What it's actually for
The T6, T8, T10 selection is deliberate. These three Torx sizes cover the pivot screws, clip screws, and scale screws on the vast majority of folding knives on the market — including the full KNAFS Lander lineup. If you carry a quality folding knife, you will eventually need to adjust or disassemble it. The Bit Driver Grande is the correct tool for that job.
Beyond knife maintenance, T8 and T10 cover most firearm accessory hardware — optic screws, rail screws, and grip screws on a number of platforms. T10 is the standard Torx size for Magpul hardware. If you're running Magpul furniture or accessories, this bit covers your field adjustments.
It also handles general field repairs: equipment screws, scope rings, bipod adjustment screws, and anything that takes a Torx fastener. Torx has largely displaced Phillips in quality hardware precisely because it doesn't cam out — which means the tools that drive Torx are the ones worth carrying.
Additional bit sets
KNAFS sells additional Wiha Torx bit sets to extend the Bit Driver's range beyond T6/T8/T10. If your specific hardware needs fall outside those three sizes, the additional sets let you swap what lives in the external channels without carrying multiple drivers. The o-rings and magnet retention work the same regardless of which bits you load.
The KNAFS Lander lineup it pairs with
If the Bit Driver is on your list, the KNAFS knife lineup belongs on it too. The Lander 1 in 14C28N is the stainless daily carry with contoured green micarta. The Lander 3 in Black G10 and Moondust Micarta run S35VN steel with the Clutch Lock. The KNAFS Lulu is the fixed blade in CPM MagnaCut for buyers who want one fixed blade that handles anything. All of them take Torx fasteners. All of them are serviced by the Bit Driver Grande.
Verdict
The KNAFS Bit Driver Grande is the correct EDC screwdriver if you carry a quality folding knife, run Torx-fastened gear, or want a driver that solves the bit-access problem rather than creating a new one. The external magnetic bit channels, Wiha bit quality, bearing end cap, and 6061 aluminum construction put it in a different category from most pocket screwdrivers. It earns its place in a pocket or an EDC organizer.
